Billy Idol and his Rebel Yell

"Billy Idol and his Rebell Yell" written on a concert picture

Sometimes it takes patience.

Billy Idol, the English singer who entered the charts in 1982 thanks to Hot in the City and White Wedding, singles from his first album Billy Idol, knows this well.

Not a smashing success, but a good start.

In November 1983, he released his second album, Rebel Yell.

As the first single, Idol chose the title song and released it in January 1984.

Oops... the song peaked at #62 in the UK and #46 in the US.

Not exactly what was expected. After all, Rebel Yell is a song that stands out for its powerful sound, not a dull one that goes unnoticed.

And the video, which has been shown repeatedly on music channels along with the video for the following single, Eyes Without a Face, made it stand out (if you're interested, I talk about Eyes Without a Face in this post: Eyes Without a Face, the Contemplative Side of Billy Idol).

The result? A successful album launch. And not only that: in 1985, the reissue of the single Rebel Yell reached number six in the United Kingdom.

For the series: patience is a virtue.
