Yesterday and Today: Europe

Among the hit songs of the 80s, The Final Countdown by Europe holds a place of honor.

The Swedish band was born in 1979, but until 1982 it was called Force. The original members, then just kids, were: the singer Joey Tempest (stage name of Rolf Magnus Joakim Larsson), the guitarist John Norum, the bassist Peter Olsson, and the drummer Tony Reno.

Olsson left the band in 1981 before getting their first contract and was replaced by John Levén. Ian Haughland took Reno's place on drums in 1984, the year in which keyboardist and guitarist Mic Michaeli also joined the group. In 1986, John Norum left Europe, replaced by electric guitarist Kee Marcello.

The Final Countdown, in addition to the famous song, is also the title of the band's third album, released in 1986, which made Europe a famous band all over the world.

Until their breakup in 1992, Europe released five albums, selling millions of copies.

In 1999, they returned to activity with the lineup Tempest, Levén, Norum, Haughland, Michaeli.

To date, Europe have released five more albums.

The latest, War of Kings, is from this year and shows that the guys, despite the passing of time, have not lost their energy.

So, after yesterday's Europe, here are today's Europe.
