Simple Minds Are Still Alive and Kicking

Concert scene with the words "Simple Minds Alive and Kicking" written on it

As a fan of Simple Minds, in the summer of 1985, I thought the Scottish band could not repeat the success of the song that had been playing on the radio for months, Don't You (Forget About Me), a piece written for the soundtrack of the film The Breakfast Club.

When a song achieves certain results, it's hard to replicate with the next one.

Luckily, I had to change my mind.

In September, the band released their seventh album, Once Upon a Time, and chose Alive and Kicking as its first single.

That was enough for Simple Minds to return to the top of the charts around the world.

The single achieved its best result in Italy, reaching number 1.

Simple Minds are still around and their 80s tunes are getting a lot of airplay on the radio.

I still hear DJs arguing over how to categorize the band sometimes.

Pop-rock, synth pop, new wave... call it what you want, but the result is the same: Simple Minds remain one of the most iconic bands of the 80s, and after thirty years, they're still Alive and Kicking.
