Janie's Got a Gun is a song by Aerosmith from their 1989 album Pump.
The song, chosen as the second single, deals with a delicate subject: sexual abuse by a parent, a social plague that, at the time, was almost never talked about.
Janie, the protagonist of the story, will end up killing her father.
Precisely for this reason, the record company asked to modify a couple of sentences from the original version before proposing it as a single.
The video shows the story told by the song, a choice that led to censorship by some TV channels.
On the album Pump, the song is presented as Water Song / Janie's Got a Gun because it opens with a ten-second instrumental interlude, entitled Water Song.
Janie's Got a Gun won a Grammy in 1991, in the category "Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group."
