Drive, the Super Hit by The Cars

"Drive, the Super Hit by The Cars" written on a concert picture

Drive is the most famous song by The Cars (in Italy for sure, in the US it might not be the case) and is one of the pop rock classics of the 80s.

This beautiful ballad was chosen as the third single from the album Heartbeat City, the band's fifth, released in 1984.

Drive was written by Ric Ocasek, the band's singer and guitarist, but was sung by the other voice of The Cars, bassist Benjamin Orr, who died in 2000 from pancreatic cancer at just 53 years old.

The protagonist of the video is Paulina Porizkova, a very young model at the time, who later married Ric Ocasek.

Her alternating moods, between laughter and tears, fully convey the meaning of the song: the feelings that accompany the end of a love story.

On July 13, 1985, The Cars took part in Live Aid, the concert event organized by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise funds for Ethiopia. Among the songs of their performance was also Drive, one of the most famous songs of the moment.
