The song Do they know it's Christmas? - released on 7 December 1984 by Band Aid, a supergroup made up of British and Irish singers - gave birth to the project of the following summer: Live Aid.
The concert, one of the most important in the history of music, took place on July 13, 1985.
It was organized by the two singers who had formed Band Aid: Bob Geldof and Midge Ure.
The purpose was the same for both projects: to raise funds for Ethiopia, victim of a terrible famine.
The cities where the numerous artists performed were connected via satellite to give life to one of the greatest television events ever.
The following singers performed in London: Elvis Costello, The Style Council, Boomtown Rats, Spandau Ballet, Ultravox, Sade, Queen, Sting, U2, Dire Straits, Elton John, Paul McCartney.
And these are some of the artists who performed in Philadelphia: Joan Baez, Bryan Adams, Black Sabbath, Madonna, Santana, Simple Minds, The Pretenders, Thompson Twins, The Cars, Duran Duran, Neil Young, Eric Clapton.
Phil Collins performed in both cities, flying to Philadelphia after singing in London.
The Australians Inxs performed from Melbourne, and other connections were made to various European cities.
That day is imprinted in the memory of all the 80s music-loving kids.
The hope is that we can attend similar events more often, but it's not necessary to organize them to financially support yet another misfortune that has struck humanity.
A true utopia.
