Babylon A.D., the hard rock of the 80s

Does anyone know Babylon A.D.?

Maybe I should rephrase the question: does anyone in Italy know Babylon A.D.?

In the United States you know this band, but in Italy I don't think they've been published.

I like, however, to hunt down artists that, in our time, we couldn't know. It's one of the things I love about the internet: access to what was once denied to us... so much great music, in this case.

This Californian glam metal band released their debut album, Babylon A.D., in 1989, two years after their inception.

The second album, Nothing Sacred, is from 1992.

Therefore, it's not surprising that it did not arrive in Italy.

Unlike other bands of the time, Babylon A.D. didn't hit the US charts with their debut album, which would have made their music exported immediately. And they didn't have a chance to grow later because by the time of their second album, grunge was already all the rage. Goodbye glam metal and hair bands.

The band broke up in 1994 but has reunited several times since 1998, always with Derek Davis and Ron Freschi, respectively founding singer and guitarist.

To find out news about the group, there's - in addition to the social channels - an official website: babylonadband.com.

Bang Go the Bells, the song in the video at the beginning of the post, is a single from the debut album Babylon A.D..

Read this post in Italian on the Italian version of the site.
