In an age where vinyl is making a huge comeback, it's strange to think how many I DIDN'T listen to in the '80s.
I listened to the songs, lots of songs, but not on vinyl.
I was too afraid of ruining them, so after a few listens, I resorted to the method used by many kids of the time (those from working-class families, mostly): recording on audio cassette.
And today when I hear young people say "how lucky you were to listen to music on vinyl", I realize that wasn't the case.
This premise (I love digressions!) serves to introduce an album that I have NOT listened to on vinyl, but I have recorded several times on cassette because that was the one I wore out: Seven and the Ragged Tiger by Duran Duran.
The album came out in the fall of 1983, driven by the first single, Union of the Snake.
A few months later, New Moon on Monday was released, followed, in April 1984, by the third single, The Reflex.
The version of The Reflex on the album did not convince the band, who entrusted the remix of the single to Nile Rodgers of Chic, a collaboration that continued later.
The success of the single confirmed that the band had understood the potential of the song.
The Reflex reached number one in the charts in many countries, including the United Kingdom and the United States.
And in Italy? Well, it stopped at number eleven (the twelfth for the album) ... after all, no one is perfect 😉.
