Raise your hand if you're a 15-year-old who knows 80s songs well.
Hmm, I think there aren't enough hands.
Sure, it could be because 15-year-olds can't respond to my invitation because they probably don't read a blog dedicated to... let's say... previous generations.
Or because they listen to music from their era.
And yet I'm sure that if the notes of Walking on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves were to be heard on the radio, teenagers wouldn't ask themselves "What the hell is this?".
There are songs that are often heard even if they're forty years old.
And I'm not just talking about the great rock classics, etc.
Walking on Sunshine was released in 1983 on the British band's album of the same name. Two years later it was re-recorded and chosen as the first single from the new album Katrina and the Waves.
A great idea, given its success.
The song was written by Kimberley Rew, the band's guitarist, who however left the commercial rights to the entire band.
The members of the group, including the author, were not enthusiastic about the song because they did not feel it, being a song full of optimism, a feeling far from many emerging bands who found themselves facing the ruthless world of music.
I guess they changed their minds (sorry to some superior minds, but singers have to eat too).
Walking on Sunshine has been used all over the world in commercials, TV series, and in many films.
So, yes, my dear potential fifteen-year-old readers: I assume you know this song. And if you want to discover some other great songs that made your mothers and grandmothers go wild, take a look at the rest of the blog 😉.
